WordCamp 2008 Philippines is tomorrow!

Friday, September 5th, 2008

WordCamp PhilippinesThis is a rather late invitation for WordCamp 2008 Philippines. I really really want to go to this event and I just realized I haven’t yet registered. Besides my boss is going to demo something, we should be “auto” registered. So here I am posting this to invite you all to attend WordCamp 2008 Philippines. This event is a celebration of Philippine Blogosphere using WordPress. Topics are great, speakers are awesome plus we get the chance to see Matt himself! Maybe dancing with him on the stage?

Anyway, here’s the list of the sponsors for this event.

Hope this gets me some freebies on the event :D

Google Chrome - Google’s Browser Project

There were rumors for sometime that Google is creating a browser, supposedly called the gBrowser. Just like the Android buzz, it was apparently true.

Google released (and took back) videos of their newest product, the Google Chrome. It offers a modern approach on how should browsers behave. Like most modern browsers, it has tabs but what makes it special is how it handles the hosts memory. Today’s tabbed browsers allocate memory only for itself and all it’s tabs share the space. If the user created more tabs, the browser allocates more memory to accomodate the tabs. So when you load lots of tabs, the system gets slower and slower. Also when a single webpage/webapp that is loaded on a tab become too busy, it jeopardizes the other tabs as well, making it system freeze also.

Chrome, on the other hand, allocates memory for each tab, isolating it from each other. So when a certain tab gets too much resources than the usual, you can close it without affecting the other tabs. Also, you can monitor which sites are actually slow and forces the developer to be more conscious about their application.

You can learn more about Google Chrome here, and also they have a lengthy web comics right here.

Behold! I has created a robot - out of sheer awesomeness and boredom

Friday, August 29th, 2008

Went to Greenwich to avail the Pizza-All-You-Can promo. I had 12 slices. It could have been more if the pizza was flowing like mud. But no. There wasn’t enough pizza for everybody. We have to wait long precious minutes.

And out of boredom I created this indestructible robot made out of leaflets and tissue paper. And I call it — PEET ZAPPA! (as in pizza pa!). If I was a god, i could’ve made it go fetch our pizza for us. But i wasn’t.

Peet Zappa is so pissed off because our pizza hasn’t arrived yet. And so was Reynan.

Quantum of Solace’s Unofficial Theme Song Leaks!

Friday, August 8th, 2008

James Bond films are heavily packed with great action, lots of explosives, cool cars, boombastic girlies, silly techno weapons and dreamy opening scenes accompanied with a fantastic theme song. And also highly eccentric villains and their Darth Vader complex. And also Martinis. And Alfred. I mean Q. And Judi Dench.

That can be said to all Bond movies until the recent reboot of the franchise via Casino Royale with a more fierce looking Daniel Craig as the celebrated secret agent. Its grittier than before with Bourne-like fight scenes with more sensible villains minus silly gadgets. And of course, the hot girlies stays. I like.

Though I can’t hide the fact that the next film, Quantum of Solace is a bit off on the title department. I really don’t know why, maybe it’s just me or I don’t know what “quantum” or “solace” really means. I’ve never used them before even in scrabble because for one i hate “Q” because it’s an automatic -10 to my score.

Anyway, here’s the Quantum of Solace unofficial theme song with some scenes from the first movie.

Face to face chassis

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

My illegal WinXP machine reintroduced me to the dreaded Blue Screen of Death and crashed last week. I'm not surprised because deep inside my heart I know that every WinXP installation are bound to crash sooner or later because it's a hidden Microsoft's feature scheme to let you buy new M$ software every 2 months. And that's just genius. And evil.

Anyhow, like any seasoned WinXP user, I already mastered the kung fu of WindowsXP re-installation. It's an art form if you must. But unlike my previous installations, I decided to do some much needed upgrade. You see, my PC has been asking for a lot of juice and my current 350W PSU (powers supply unit) isn't up for a 2 DVD ROM ( the other is a dvd writer), a 7200RPM HDD, 2 auxiliary fans and a gigantic CPU Volcano fan setup. Sometimes i just have to remove one of those components to make my PC running.

Not only i need to upgrade the PSU, i also need a new housing for my PC. My PC chassis is not doing any help cooling the insides of my PC that i have to use my PC half open all the time. This is like driving a car without the hood or like running around half naked all the time or like Lito Lapid carrying a big-ass machine gun on his right hand and his intestines by his left. Not really ideal.

So I bought this chassis with 500W PSU and it came free with a PS2 keyboard and mouse and crappy speaker. It was a nice deal though. And after nearly 2 hours of CPU to CPU transplant, my machines up and running. And after reinstallation of WinXP (which I will discuss next), it's running smoothly and much better. Guess the temperature drop helped a lot.

Here's my newly "pimped" PC.

Senator likens Arroyo’s SONA to a Friendster list

Now that the minority is the new majority, GMA would be better prepared and use Facebook next time around.

Senator likens Arroyo’s SONA to a Friendster list

MANILA, Philippines — (UPDATE) President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's State of the Nation Address (SONA) seemed more like a Friendster list than a development roadmap, Senator Pia Cayetano said Tuesday.

“Like last year's SONA, the speech sounded like a Who's Who list of the President's closest friends and allies and the infrastructure projects they had asked from her administration as reward for their political loyalty,” said Cayetano.

She said Arroyo’s hour-long speech at the opening of Congress Monday “resembled a Friendster list, but failed to address ordinary people’s concerns.” Friendster is a popular social networking site on the Internet.

Critics said this year’s SONA became a virtual roll call of Arroyo’s allies in Congress and the local government.

Cayetano, using the yardstick of delivering basic services to the people, gave the President’s seventh annual address a failing mark.

She said several crucial targets in health, education and poverty reduction not met by the Arroyo administration were not substantially discussed in the SONA.

“We're way off some of the targets that the government itself had laid down (under the Medium Term Philippine Development Plan),” she said. “Basic health and education are among the closest to the hearts of our people since these involve basic services that they always expect to hear about in the President's SONA.”

Cayetano cited the following statistic:

What’s with Google Groups Directory??

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

If you are programmer and you are daunted with a task so daunting, you probably need help. And when a programmer needs help, he doesn't want to read thirty pages of documentation or a dozen FAQs. The most effective way to get help is by asking another programmer which sometimes can be really annoying. And the least annoying way to ask another programmer is by the way of forums or groups. And the easiest way to search for *that* group is probably Google, since they are too kind to adopt usenet groups, the king of forums.

And while I was doing that, this happened…

I don't know if I'm doing it wrong, but i can't seem to browse Google Groups directories! I have to use the search to get to the groups i wanted.

I guess nobody's perfect, even Google.

Me And My Almuranas

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

Oh I love them spicy foods
Though I know it won’t do me no good
Especially when it’s hot and sunny
It’ll make you perspire oh my golly

Bicol Express! I want it hot!
Not like in the can where it’s full of crap
I want my chopped sili spread out evenly
By just thinking about it, it makes me hungry

Papaitan and Sisig, bring it on
Just don’t forget the chili sauce, son
I want it flowing like mud and I want it badly
So I really, really hope that you bring that many

Whenever I eat a hot Sinigang
Or my most favorite dish ever, the Dinuguan!
Put some calamansi and patis to make it tasty
Hey, don’t you ever forget to put some sili!

Sili, sili, sili, just can’t get enough it
Grind it, chop it, damn I want to chew it!
Take away that water waiter, water’s for sissies
I will eat my food spiked and I want it stingy!

Oh I really love them hot and spicy foods
But from today I will truly miss them…(sigh)
And it’s because of this silly almuranas
Whenever I shit, it burns my ass

So adorable sili I will definitely miss you
And when I see you I will definitely kiss you
Darn, I should be enjoying now a spicy meal with class
If not only for my sorry ass and my almuranas
